Is GTA 6 Coming to Xbox Game Pass at Launch?

Grand Theft Auto VI will not be included with Xbox Game Pass on day one, requiring a standalone purchase on current-gen consoles.

No Day-One Access on Game Pass or Cloud

Grand Theft Auto VI will not be available on Xbox Game Pass when it launches. Subscribers hoping to jump into Vice City on day one as part of their monthly membership will need to purchase the game separately, as Rockstar Games is keeping the title off subscription catalogs at release.

The restriction also extends to remote play features tied to the subscription ecosystem. GTA 6 will not be playable or streamable at launch through Xbox Cloud Gaming via Game Pass, and there is no simultaneous PC Game Pass release because the PC edition is not launching alongside the console versions.

Confirmed Platforms and Purchase Requirements

To play GTA 6 at release, players must secure a standard standalone copy, either digitally through official storefronts or on physical disc. Rockstar has built the title exclusively for current-generation hardware, focusing launch availability on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PlayStation 5.

Historical Precedent for Post-Launch Additions

While a day-one subscription debut is entirely off the table, Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive have a history of bringing major releases to Xbox Game Pass well after launch. Previous blockbusters including Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 eventually rotated onto the service for limited-time windows, often arriving years after their initial retail debuts.

However, that past pattern is strictly historical precedent rather than an active agreement. Neither Rockstar nor Microsoft has announced any future Game Pass roadmap or timeline for GTA 6, meaning anyone planning to explore the open world at rollout should plan on buying a standalone copy.
