Ubisoft Reveals Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake for 2027

The turn-based strategy landmark returns with Snowdrop-powered 3D visuals, console versions, and all original expansion content.

Return to Erathia Confirmed at Gamescom

Ubisoft officially unveiled Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake during the Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase on August 25, 2026. The publisher confirmed that the reborn fantasy strategy title is targeting a 2027 launch window across multiple platforms.

The remake is heading to PC across Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Ubisoft Connect, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It will also be accessible through the Ubisoft+ subscription service. Development is spearheaded by Ubisoft China studios in Chengdu and Shanghai, with additional development support provided by teams at Ubisoft Paris and Montpellier.

Classic Turn-Based Tactics in the Snowdrop Engine

Rather than altering the formula that defined the 1999 original, Ubisoft is keeping the foundational gameplay fully intact. The remake preserves classic turn-based kingdom exploration, grid-based tactical battlefields, and RPG hero progression while rebuilding the entire visual presentation in full 3D using Ubisoft's proprietary Snowdrop engine.

Hands-on impressions and developer updates emphasize that combat remains strictly turn-based and grid-bound. The project layers modern quality-of-life additions, updated user interfaces, and new planning tools over the established mechanics rather than shifting toward real-time strategy.

Full Expansion Suite and New Story Prologue

The remake features the complete content package from the start, avoiding split releases. Ubisoft confirmed that both major official expansions, Armageddon's Blade and The Shadow of Death, are integrated alongside the base Restoration of Erathia campaign.

The campaign structure weaves the original storylines together into a single, cohesive narrative progression. To set the stage for returning fans and newcomers alike, the package also introduces a newly authored prologue campaign.

Classic Edition Available on Steam

First created by New World Computing and published by The 3DO Company in 1999, Heroes of Might and Magic III remains one of the most revered entries in the turn-based strategy genre. For players looking to revisit the original release immediately ahead of the 2027 remake, Ubisoft concurrently launched the classic Heroes of Might and Magic III Complete Edition on Steam alongside the reveal.
