Free Games This Week: Xbox Free Play Days, Game Pass Wave 2, and PS Plus September Additions

Xbox Free Play Days: Two games, one deadline

Xbox's Free Play Days program lets anyone with an eligible subscription download and play select titles for free over a limited window, no purchase required while the offer runs. This week's lineup went live and both games close out on September 20, 2026, so anyone wanting to try them needs to jump in before the weekend ends.

• Hell Let Loose: Vietnam — free to play through September 20, 2026
• Sea of Thieves: 2026 Edition — free to play through September 20, 2026

Sea of Thieves remains one of the more approachable entries to try during a free weekend since progress and cosmetics earned during the trial typically carry over if you decide to buy in later. Hell Let Loose: Vietnam gives players a shot at its large-scale, squad-based combat without committing to a purchase first.

Xbox Game Pass September 2026 Wave 2: The full lineup

Xbox's second wave of September additions is loaded, mixing AAA shooters with indie curiosities and a couple of major day-one drops. These are subscription catalog additions, meaning they're playable as long as you keep an active Game Pass subscription, not games you keep permanently.

The headline additions are Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, both landing in the catalog alongside Dune: Awakening and Minecraft Dungeons II. Ninja Gaiden 4 and RuneScape: Dragonwilds round out the higher-profile names, with RuneScape: Dragonwilds notably also appearing on PlayStation Plus Premium the same month.

• RuneScape: Dragonwilds
• Marvel Cosmic Invasion
• Planet of Lana II
• Routine
• Ultimate Sheep Raccoon
• Kernel Hearts
• Ninja Gaiden 4
• Dune: Awakening
• Well Dweller
• Mad King Redemption
• Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
• Minecraft Dungeons II
• Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault
• Rematch
• Shelldiver
• Speedrunners 2: King of Speed
• Dice a Million
• Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
• The Royal Writ
• Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage

The rest of the wave leans into variety: Marvel Cosmic Invasion and Planet of Lana II for narrative and action fans, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault and Rematch for co-op and multiplayer sessions, and smaller entries like Ultimate Sheep Raccoon, Kernel Hearts, Well Dweller, Mad King Redemption, Dice a Million, and The Royal Writ filling out the indie side. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage and Speedrunners 2: King of Speed give competitive players fresh options as well.

PlayStation Plus Premium adds ten games, plus a claim deadline to watch

PlayStation Plus Premium's Game Catalog just picked up ten new titles. Like Xbox's additions, these are subscription-tier games available as long as your Premium membership stays active rather than titles you keep forever.

• RuneScape: Dragonwilds
• WWE 2K26
• Ball x Pit
• Date Everything!
• Slitterhead
• Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound
• Dungeons of Hinterberg
• Sniper Elite: Resistance
• Mega Man X Command Mission
• Metro Redux

It's a broad spread. WWE 2K26 and Sniper Elite: Resistance bring recent, higher-budget releases into the catalog, Slitterhead and Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound cover newer action titles, and Mega Man X Command Mission and Metro Redux dig into classic-library picks. Dungeons of Hinterberg, Ball x Pit, and Date Everything! round things out for players looking for something lighter or more experimental.

Separately, this is the last stretch to claim August's PlayStation Plus Monthly Games lineup. Anyone who hasn't added those titles to their library yet has until October 5, 2026, to do so with an active subscription. Once claimed, Monthly Games stay in your library even if your subscription later lapses and comes back, unlike the rotating Premium Game Catalog titles, which require an active membership to play.
