Free Weekend Roundup: Xbox Free Play Days Ends September 13, Plus New Game Pass and PS Plus Extra Titles

Xbox Free Play Days: What's Free This Weekend

Xbox's Free Play Days event is running now through September 13, 2026, and it splits into two tiers that are easy to mix up if you're not paying attention to the fine print. Some titles require an active Game Pass membership to unlock the trial, while others are open to any Xbox player regardless of subscription status.

Game Pass Membership Required

If you're a Game Pass subscriber (Core or Ultimate), you get free trial access to Borderlands 4, F1 25: 2026 Season Edition, Surviving Mars: Relaunched, and CarX Drift Racing Online through the weekend. These are full trial windows, not permanent additions to your library, so anything you accomplish or unlock only sticks around if you later buy or subscribe to keep playing.

Free Play Days For All

Separately, Dustborn and EA Sports Madden NFL 27 fall under the 'Free Play Days For All' banner, meaning any Xbox player can jump in and try them at no cost and without needing a Game Pass subscription at all. Both offers close out alongside the rest of the promotion on September 13, so this is very much a use-it-or-lose-it weekend.

New on Xbox Game Pass: September Wave 1

Separate from the free trial weekend, Xbox Game Pass subscribers also got a fresh batch of catalog additions as part of the September Wave 1 rollout. These titles are part of the ongoing subscription library rather than a limited-time trial, so they stay playable as long as your membership is active.

• Shelldiver
• Speedrunners 2: King of Speed
• Dice a Million
• Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
• The Royal Writ
• Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage
• RuneScape: Dragonwilds

Worth noting: RuneScape: Dragonwilds is also part of PlayStation Plus Extra's latest lineup, so it's one of the rare titles reaching both major subscription services around the same time.

PlayStation Plus Extra Catalog Additions

PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers have a hefty batch of new games to dig into this month. The latest catalog wave includes RuneScape: Dragonwilds, WWE 2K26, Ball x Pit, Date Everything!, Slitterhead, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, Dungeons of Hinterberg, Sniper Elite: Resistance, Mega Man X Command Mission, and Metro Redux.

These are ongoing subscription titles available for as long as you keep an active Extra or Premium membership and the games remain in the catalog, not free-to-keep giveaways.
