Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is coming in fall 2026

The current official release window is fall 2026, exclusively on Netflix.

CD Projekt Red announced that window alongside the latest trailer on June 30. The official Edgerunners 2 page still lists fall 2026, and Netflix's current page for the show doesn't provide a more specific date. (press.cdprojektred.com)

So where did the October 20 date come from?

There is a reason players keep seeing October 20, 2026.

A Reddit post preserved a screenshot that appeared to show Netflix Korea giving October 20 as the premiere date alongside its version of the new trailer. The poster later updated the thread to say Netflix Korea had changed the text to the less specific "This Fall." Another community post linked the claim directly to Netflix Korea's YouTube upload. That makes October 20 more credible than a random anonymous rumor. It still isn't an announced release date.

CDPR's current site says fall. Its June press release says fall. Netflix's current listing doesn't give October 20. Until one of those primary sources publishes the date, October 20 belongs in the reported but unconfirmed bucket. (cyberpunk.net)

This is a new Night City story, not David's continuation

CDPR has been clear about this part.

When Edgerunners 2 was announced in 2025, the studio called it a new standalone anime with a brand-new cast. Showrunner Bartosz Sztybor said David's story was over and described the new project as a different story of redemption and revenge in Night City. (press.cdprojektred.com)

The official Edgerunners account later made David's status explicit: David is dead. (x.com)

Sztybor went further in a 2026 interview when asked about fans wanting David resurrected. He said it wasn't going to happen and argued that bringing him back would damage the ending the first series built around him. (animecorner.me)

So Edgerunners 2 isn't David Martinez Season 2.

There are still narrower questions we can't answer. Nothing we've found rules out a reference, old recording, or flashback. CDPR also hasn't announced whether Lucy or Falco appear in the new series.

Weak Kingsley

Weak used to be known as King, a veteran edgerunner who reached the top before falling into the shadow of his old reputation.

The broader official synopsis adds an important detail: Weak is now forced to live without chrome while trying to find a purpose in a world that has moved on without him. (cyberpunk.net)

Why he lost his chrome, what made King famous, and what ended that part of his life haven't been explained.

D

Roman Carax

His camera is prominent enough in the public material that it appears to matter beyond character flavor. How much it shapes the full series hasn't been confirmed.

Talia

Talia was raised in corporate towers before being hardened by Maelstrom's influence. CDPR describes her as fiercely independent and immersed in the gang's violent, chrome-obsessed culture. (cyberpunk.net)

That wording deserves some care. It establishes a strong Maelstrom connection, but the official bio doesn't explicitly say she was a corporate employee or give a formal label for her role inside the gang.

How she went from a corpo upbringing to life around Maelstrom is still one of the bigger gaps in her backstory.

What we actually know about the story

The official setup points to Weak and D as two major drivers of the plot.

Weak is trying to figure out what remains of his identity after his glory days and his chrome are gone. D is chasing revenge and ends up moving toward buried corpo secrets. CDPR says the ten episodes will deal with family, obsession, legacy, and the way a person's "lens" shapes the stories of the people around them. That language around perspective lines up with Roman's fixation on recording people, although the exact role of his footage is still unclear.

Reported: io9 attended the first-episode premiere at Anime Expo and described Roman's camcorder as a major part of how that episode presents Night City and introduces the other characters. The creators have also signaled a tonal change.

The Edgerunners 2 rumors and theories worth knowing about

A few current claims are interesting enough to explain. None should be treated as confirmed plot details.

Avida looks like a genuine datamine, but she hasn't been announced

Status: Datamined

Fans digging through material connected to the official Edgerunners 2 site surfaced what appears to be an unreleased fifth character card for a woman named Avida. The discovery was later reported by gaming outlets, while the public version of CDPR's character page still shows only Weak, D, Roman, and Talia followed by "Coming soon." (reddit.com)

The hidden profile reportedly describes Avida as a former jazz singer and corpo insider, an old flame of Weak, and Talia's mother. (gamesradar.com)

That gives the claim more weight than an anonymous leak because the material was reportedly pulled from CDPR's own site. It still isn't an announcement.

Unused website data can be unfinished, outdated, accidentally published, or changed before release. Avida shouldn't be listed with the confirmed cast until CDPR reveals her.

Is Weak Talia's father?

Status: Theory

This claim takes the Avida material one step further.

If the datamined card is accurate, it reportedly says Avida was once involved with Weak and that Talia is her daughter. Fans connected those two details and theorized that Weak is Talia's father. (reddit.com)

That's possible, but the evidence doesn't establish it. Knowing that Weak dated Avida and that Avida is Talia's mother doesn't tell us who Talia's father is.

Does Edgerunners 2 take place in 2071?

Status: Community theory

One recurring theory reads the stylized II in the Edgerunners 2 logo as 71, turning the design into a possible clue for the year 2071. The idea has circulated through Edgerunners community discussions, where fans have connected that date to events elsewhere in Cyberpunk lore. (reddit.com)

The logo can also be read as exactly what it is on the title: a stylized Roman numeral II. For now, 2071 is an interpretation, not a confirmed date.

Is that Dum Dum in the trailer?

Status: Unconfirmed visual identification

A short shot involving Talia includes a Maelstrom character in the background who resembles Dum Dum, the gang member V can meet during The Pickup in Cyberpunk 2077. Fans noticed the similarity, and GamesRadar later reported on the possible cameo. (gamesradar.com)

CDPR hasn't identified the character as Dum Dum.

A confirmed appearance would give us a useful timeline clue. An unidentified Maelstrom character who happens to look similar doesn't.

Until there's a clearer frame or an official name, the cameo remains unconfirmed.

Who's making Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2?

CD Projekt Red is again working with TRIGGER, the Japanese animation studio behind the original series. This time, Kai Ikarashi is directing after working on the first Edgerunners, including its sixth episode. CDPR announced his move into the director's chair when Edgerunners 2 was revealed in 2025. Episode 1 has already been shown, just not to the rest of us

The first episode of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiered during Anime Expo in Los Angeles on July 3.

CDPR announced beforehand that the screening would be exclusive and wouldn't be recorded or streamed. The company later said nearly 6,000 people attended its Edgerunners 2 panel, and staff publicly thanked the audience for largely keeping footage and major spoilers off the internet.
