Star Citizen Alpha 4.10 Isn’t Live Yet: What’s New and Why CIG Is Holding It Back
CIG moved Siege of Orison and Instancing into 4.10 for more testing. Now the patch is open to all PTU backers, but it still hasn’t reached Live.

Star Citizen Alpha 4.10 still isn’t on the Live servers. As of August 18, the update is available to all backers through the Public Test Universe, with build `4.10.0-PTU.12464883` currently in All Waves testing. Alpha 4.9 remains the Live version. (Roberts Space Industries Devtracker)
Cloud Imperium Games has also explained why it hasn’t pushed 4.10 out yet. In its August 17 community update, CIG said it had intentionally held the patch back to give the team more time to address key issues and improve performance. More focused stress testing is planned before the Live release. (This Week in Star Citizen, August 17)
That matters because 4.10 already exists partly because CIG decided to slow down.
The update was carved out of Alpha 4.9 after Siege of Orison and the new Instancing technology were given extra development time. Now, after reaching every PTU wave, CIG is making essentially the same call again: keep testing instead of shipping simply because the original window has arrived. (Roadmap Roundup, July 1)
Star Citizen Alpha 4.10 is still in PTU
Current status as of August 18, 2026
- Alpha 4.10: PTU, All Backers
- Latest verified PTU build: `12464883`
- Live version: Alpha 4.9
- New Alpha 4.10 Live date: not announced
CIG’s own PTU documentation makes an important distinction here. Opening a build to all backers does not mean the update has been released. The PTU is a staging environment for unreleased patches, and wider access gives CIG a larger population for stress testing, performance checks, bug reports, and release-candidate testing. (PTU FAQ)
The current testing cycle has also been moving quickly. CIG published multiple All Waves 4.10 builds over the past several days, including `12442953`, `12448924`, `12456044`, `12457370`, and the current `12464883`. Development is clearly active, but the frequency of PTU builds doesn’t tell us when CIG will decide one is ready for Live. (Roberts Space Industries Devtracker)
Why Alpha 4.10 exists in the first place
Alpha 4.10 wasn’t originally the next big box on a neat release schedule.
On July 1, CIG changed its plan for Alpha 4.9. The studio said it had been reassessing how it prioritized bugs and quality-of-life problems, drawing on the Issue Council, Spectrum, Reddit, direct feedback, and other sources. That process identified nearly 100 issues CIG considered significant to core gameplay or quality of life. (Roadmap Roundup, July 1)
The result was a smaller Alpha 4.9 with more attention on stability and fixes. Siege of Orison and the technology surrounding Instancing were pushed into a newly defined Alpha 4.10 instead.
CIG’s reasoning around Instancing was particularly direct. The system touches several new gameplay systems and backend services, and the studio said earlier testing showed that more work was needed before it was comfortable moving the technology to Live. Alpha 4.10 was initially positioned for roughly mid-August, giving the team several extra weeks to work on those features. (Roadmap Roundup, July 1)
The same reasoning now connects both ends of 4.10’s short history. On July 1, CIG gave Siege and Instancing more time before Live. On August 17, with 4.10 already open to all PTU waves, the studio again chose more time for issues, performance, and testing instead of pushing the patch out to meet its original window. (This Week in Star Citizen, August 17)
What’s actually new in Alpha 4.10
By the July 29 Roadmap update, CIG had moved nine Alpha 4.10 cards to Committed status. (Roadmap Roundup, July 29)
- Siege of Orison: Reworks the returning operation around Instancing.
- Instancing: Adds controlled gameplay spaces for specific content.
- Item Recovery: Expands recovery for customized ship loadouts.
- Fuel rebalance: Adjusts Quantum and Hydrogen fuel capacity and consumption.
- BUL-H4 armor: Adds a new super-heavy armor class.
- Vendetta HMG: Adds a weapon designed for the new super-heavy equipment class.
- Arlington rifle: Adds a new lever-action rifle.
- Hedeby S2 optic: Adds a new weapon optic.
- Wikelo offerings: Expands Wikelo-related ship rewards.
All nine were listed as Committed in CIG’s July 29 Roadmap Roundup.
Siege of Orison returns with a major technical change
Siege of Orison itself isn’t new.
The original version ran as a Dynamic Event in 2022, sending players into combat across Orison’s platforms while the Nine Tails occupied parts of the city. (Siege of Orison)
The Alpha 4.10 version rebuilds that idea around Instancing.
Instead of relying entirely on activity taking place in the normal shared Persistent Universe space, Instancing gives CIG a way to create controlled gameplay spaces for players taking part in specific content. The studio has described the technology as involving new gameplay systems and backend services, which is part of why it was moved out of 4.9 for additional validation. (Roadmap Roundup, July 1)
Instancing is the bigger technology story
Siege gives Instancing an obvious showcase, but the underlying system is the more important addition to watch.
Star Citizen’s Persistent Universe is built around players occupying a shared simulation. Structured mission content creates a different problem. CIG may need tighter control over who enters a particular space and what state an encounter is in, which is where Instancing becomes useful.
The studio has also been cautious about moving it to Live. When CIG removed the feature from 4.9, it specifically pointed to the amount of new technology, backend work, gameplay systems, and validation involved. Weeks later, Instancing remains part of the active 4.10 PTU cycle. (Roadmap Roundup, July 1)
CIG hasn’t identified Instancing as the single reason 4.10 remains off Live. It is, however, one of the clearest systems still receiving attention during testing.
There’s more here than Siege
Some of the other 4.10 additions are smaller, but they affect parts of the game players deal with regularly.
Item Recovery: Ship Loadout Improvements expands the recovery system around customized ship loadouts, while the Fuel Tanks and Consumption Rebalance adjusts Quantum and Hydrogen fuel capacity and consumption across ships. Current PTU balance values can still change before the Live build, so they shouldn’t be treated as final numbers. (Roadmap Roundup, July 29)
4.10 also adds new combat equipment. The Roadmap’s Committed list includes the BUL-H4 super-heavy armor, Vendetta HMG, Arlington lever-action rifle, and Hedeby S2 optic, alongside new Wikelo ship offerings. (Roadmap Roundup, July 29)
So why isn’t Alpha 4.10 Live yet?
This time, we don’t have to reconstruct the answer from Roadmap cards or player speculation.
CIG told players on August 17 that it had intentionally held the patch back while the team worked through key issues and performance problems, with additional focused stress testing planned before release. (This Week in Star Citizen, August 17)
The current PTU notes make the kind of work still happening more concrete. Build `12464883` lists an Instancing issue where the elevator used to enter an instance can respond with a noticeable delay. Another known issue can briefly stall or freeze the client while the main instance finishes streaming in. (Alpha 4.10 PTU Patch Notes 12464883)
The same build includes potential fixes for Siege enemies carrying keycards despawning before players can kill them, and for an instance elevator becoming unusable after its assigned game server crashed and recovered. CIG also lists further NPC client performance work and a server crash fix. (Alpha 4.10 PTU Patch Notes 12464883)
Those examples show what CIG is still working on. They are not a list of confirmed release blockers. CIG hasn’t said that the delayed elevator, instance streaming stall, NPC behavior, or any other single bug is the reason 4.10 remains in PTU.
That leaves a more precise picture than simply saying “4.10 has bugs.” CIG built this release around technology it had already decided needed extra validation, moved it through a broad PTU cycle, and then chose additional work on issues and performance before Live. (Roadmap Roundup, July 1)
PTU, Committed, and Live don’t mean the same thing
Star Citizen development comes with enough labels to make patch discussions messier than they need to be.
Tentative means CIG is targeting something for a release, but its Roadmap placement can still change.
Committed represents a higher level of confidence in that deliverable. Nine 4.10 cards received that status in the July 29 Roadmap Roundup. (Roadmap Roundup, July 29)
PTU means a patch or feature is being tested in the pre-Live environment. CIG explicitly warns that these builds are incomplete, can receive repeated code revisions, and may contain content or fixes that change during testing. (PTU FAQ)
Live means the patch has actually reached the main game environment.
Recco Battaglia shows why the distinction matters. She is present in the current 4.10 PTU testing focus, but CIG’s July 29 Roadmap Roundup still listed Mission Giver: Recco Battaglia as Tentative while moving nine other cards to Committed. (Roadmap Roundup, July 29)
Seeing something in a PTU build tells us what CIG is testing. It doesn’t automatically tell us exactly what the first Live build will contain.
When will Star Citizen Alpha 4.10 go Live?
We don’t know yet.
CIG’s original plan pointed toward mid-August, but August 18 has arrived with 4.10 still in the PTU. The studio has confirmed that it intentionally kept the patch there for more work on issues and performance, but it has not announced a replacement Live date. (Roadmap Roundup, July 1)
Any specific release date circulating without a new CIG announcement is therefore a prediction, not a confirmed date.
The useful signal to watch now is the official one: either CIG announces the release or Alpha 4.10 moves onto the Live branch. As of August 18, the latest official Devtracker entry still shows Alpha 4.10 as an All Waves PTU build. (Roberts Space Industries Devtracker)
